SC97 - Beyond Boundaries

SC97 was Indiana University's inaugural appearance at the IEEE/ACM Supercomputing conference. IU had not been regarded as a major leader in the supercomputing arena prior to the arrival at IU of Vice President Michael A. McRobbie. The supercomputing community was thus surprised and impressed with the quality of the content and appearance of our first booth. The theme for this booth was "Beyond Boundaries" - signifying that we were enabling IU researchers to move beyond the boundaries of what had previously been possible. Our introduction to the booth written in 1997 said: "Indiana University’s high performance computing and communications environment is enabling researchers across a wide range of academic fields to move beyond the boundaries imposed by distance and desktop-level technology and explore new paradigms in science, the arts, and education."
