Research in Indiana 2002 at SC2002!

The State of Indiana has long been known as the "Crossroads of America," but in many circles it is increasingly known as the "Crossroads of Information." Indiana is rapidly gaining a national reputation as a leader in the application and use of advanced information technology — as it continues to make the transition from a basic manufacturing economy to an information economy.

Working hand-in-hand with State government and corporate partners, four of the State's finest institutions of higher learning — Indiana University, Purdue University, Rose-Hulman, and the University of Notre Dame — are playing a vital role in this transition, helping to build the information technology infrastructure that underpins the State's economic future and enables advanced research and innovation.

Leveraging scientific developments and strength in IT, the State and its research institutions have been working to create initiatives and build infrastructure critical in:

  • Attracting and retaining new IT business and research to the State,
  • Recruiting new scientific talent and the nation's top students,
  • Building a better-trained high-tech work force, and
  • Infusing new technologies into existing companies.

Once again, four of Indiana's leading institutions of higher education are collaborating at SC'02, to be held November 18-22, in Baltimore, Maryland, to present "Research in Indiana," showcasing many of these important research and educational achievements. The "Research in Indiana" exhibit will feature significant developments in the areas of high performance and grid computing, advanced communications and networking, computer and software engineering, informatics, genomics, e-commerce, and advanced visualization and human-computer interaction.
