IP-over-Water

The optical phenomena "total internal reflection" allow communication over fiber-optic cable. Total internal reflection occurs when light within fiber-optic cable does not escape from the sides of the cable, but rather reflects within the cable. Internal reflection occurs when light passes through two materials of differing refraction indexes. We have built a set of devices using water and air to demonstrate total internal reflection as it occurs in fiber-optic cable. The demonstration includes transmission of TCP/IP data over a laminar stream of water.
