The Indiana Center for Biomedical Microscopy

With the completion of the Human Genome Project, the focus of attention in biomedical research has shifted to understanding the functions and interactions of proteins in cells. This shift corresponds to revolutionary developments in optical microscopy and digital imaging that provide investigators with unprecedented views of how cells function and therapeutic agents work.

The Indiana Center for Biological Microscopy, with support from Indiana Genomics Initiative, has developed into a world-class center for highresolution biomedical imaging, providing state-of-the-art capabilities in fluorescence, confocal and multi-photon microscopy.

The Center has assembled a unique synergistic team of cell biologists, physicians, microscopists and computer engineers to realize the potential of this technology for biomedical discovery and therapeutic advances.

Researchers of the Center work closely with investigators from academia and industry to apply this unique technology to understand the biologicial basis of disease, and to develop effective therapies. In addition to numerous collaborations with researchers throughout the United States, collaborations are also currently underway with international investigators from Australia, Sweden, Germany and Canada. Industrial collaborators now include Eli Lilly, Abbott, Dow, ISIS Pharmaceuticals, and Quark Pharmaceuticals.
