The Midwest Tier 2 (MWT2) grid computing center
The Midwest Tier 2 (MWT2) grid computing center was jointly developed by Indiana University (IU) and the University of Chicago (UC). The MWT2 center, one of three initial Atlas Tier 2 sites in the US, will be part of the computer grid used by physicists to analyze immense amounts of data generated by the Atlas project at CERN. The MWT2 is unique in that personnel and hardware resources are split evenly between IU and UC. IU's part of the MWT2 grant will be used to fund commodity hardware and two system administrators, who will look after the hardware at both schools. IU's hardware will be installed in the new IT building on the Indianapolis campus.
IU's Research and Academic Computing division of University Information Technology Services will operate the center in cooperation with the High Energy Physics group of IU's Department of Physics.
